Mary Cunningham, 96, of Prescott

Mary L. Cunningham

Age 96, of Prescott, MI passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2026 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on January 20, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Fredrick and Marion Allgeier (Prieur). Mary was the First Lady of Rockwood, MI when her husband, Melford served as Mayor. After 34 years there, they moved to Prescott where she has spent the past 30 years. Mary enjoyed many interesting jobs that included working at Fort George Drive-in, waitress, food prep at Ford Motor Co. and her favorite, school lunch mom and playground monitor where all the kids called her “grandma.” She enjoyed making silk flower arrangements, painting shirts, crafts, shopping, trips to the casino and especially spending time with her family. Mary had a fun spirit and she was often seen wearing silly hats, dressing up for each holiday and making trips to McDonalds for hot fudge sundaes. She belonged to the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. Mary is survived by five children, son Melford (B.J.) Cunningham, Judy (Don) Finnern, David (Janet) Cunningham, Patricia (Paul) Collins, Gayle (Ben) Frazzitta, brother William Allgeier, sister Carol Watkins, and sister Rita (John) Filipek. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, April, Kelly, Charles, Chrissy, Paul, Danny, Joey, Ryan, Evan and 11 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Melford D. Cunningham (married January 22, 1949), son Charles Cunningham and three siblings, Fred, Dorothy and Gerry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 11:00 am (instate at 10 am) at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Prescott, MI. Internment will follow in the Mills Township Cemetery.
