ROSCOMMON– The Gahagan Nature Preserve is welcoming bird enthusiasts this summer with three special events celebrating birds, conservation, and the outdoors. Visitors can get an up-close look at bird research during a Bird Banding Demonstration from 9-11 a.m. June 5 as part of the Kirtland’s Warbler Festival, where experts will safely capture, measure, and release birds while explaining their role in conservation.
Community members can also take part in the June Bird Count on June 13, helping document local bird species and contribute to citizen-science efforts. The season wraps up with the popular Kirtland’s Warbler Tour from 7-10 a.m. July 11, offering a chance to learn about one of Michigan’s greatest conservation success stories and its unique jack pine habitat.
