Marjorie Ann Birkenbach
Age 90, of East Tawas, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026. Marjorie was born to the late Emil and Mary (Mochty) Lewitzke on January 26, 1936, in East Tawas, Michigan. Marjorie was a lifelong resident of East Tawas. She was a proud graduate of the Tawas Area High School Class of 1954. Marjorie spent time working as a dietician at the Tawas St. Joseph Hospital for six years, before she transitioned into working as an assistant teacher at HeadStart for 12 years. In 1997, she retired from work. Some of Marjorie’s favorite hobbies consisted of reading, doing puzzles, shopping, baking, gardening, traveling, coffee dates with friends, and spending quality time with her family.
Marjorie was very strong in her faith. She has been a longtime member at the Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas and has served as a volunteer on their Elder Society and as a Eucharistic Minister. Being a member at the church was very important to her, and she made many friendships and memories there that lasted a lifetime.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Lori (Jim) Bailey, Diane (Dar) Richardson, Mark Birkenbach, Gary (Sherri) Birkenbach, Geri Mohr, and Marcie (Pete) Dullea; Tom (Heidi) Birkenbach; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Mary Lewitzke; brother, Leonard Lewitzke; sisters, Gladys Nelkie and Arlene Reinke; and her granddaughter, Jessica Davidson.
Per Marjorie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held for her at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas, Michigan, on April 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM. The family will welcome the public for a period of visitation at the church from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.
