NORTHEAST MICHIGAN– Each January since 2010, the President has designated the month to raise awareness and educate the public about identifying and preventing human trafficking. Often misunderstood, human trafficking happens everywhere—even in northern communities—and involves force, fraud, or coercion to exploit individuals for sex or labor. It is never a choice.
To help raise awareness locally, the Human Trafficking Community Group and Zonta have created an educational window display at Art-Y-Facts in downtown Roscommon. Community members are encouraged to stop by and learn more about the signs and realities of human trafficking.
If you suspect human trafficking, call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 888-373-7888. For local information, call 989-387-2203.
