Carl Barnes, 77, of Roscommon

Sergeant First Class Carl H. Barnes, 77, U.S. Army Retired, of Roscommon, Michigan, went to be with his loving wife (Dianne) and family that have gone before him. Carl entered eternal peace at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

Carl was born on August 7, 1944, in Detroit Michigan, son to Carl and Irene (Le Pete) Barnes.
Carl was a distinct member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4159, of Roscommon, Michigan, where he served positions such as President and Unit Chaplain. His passions were traveling, cooking, his family, and baseball. He is best remembered for his charming smile, respectful handshakes, his infectious laugh, and high spirits. Carl served in the US Army for 22 years, from October 19, 1961- August 31, 1984. His achievements include three tours to Vietnam and multiple duty stations throughout Europe. He is distinguished by receiving the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Award with 3rd Oak Leaf cluster, Vietnam Unit Commendation Citation, as well as the Combat Infantry Badge.

Carl will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his former wife, Sonja Barnes of Leesville Louisiana; three sons: SFC John (Shelley) Barnes of Fort Sam, Houston Texas, Carl (Daniel) Duenas of Las Vegas Nevada and Michael Barnes of Leesville Louisiana.

Carl is also survived by grandchildren: Chelsea (Edan) Martinez of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Kristopher Barnes of Tucson, Arizona, and Ian Barnes of Leesville, Louisiana; great-grandchild Aizen Martinez; two sisters: Edith Griffith of Pineville, Kentucky and Rosie Kramer of Southgate, Michigan; Dianne’s children: Tammy and Howard; grandchildren: Greg, Samantha, and Eddie; great-grandchildren: Connor and Aida; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carl is preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Barnes, his mother and father, as well as sisters, Edna, Mary, and Carol.

Family and friends will gather from 6:00-8:00 PM, on Monday, January 10, 2022, …Masks Required… at Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, …Masks Highly Recommended… at St. Hubert Catholic Church, 7612 West Higgins Lake Drive, Roscommon, Michigan
48653.

Carl will be laid to rest at Crestview Cemetery, Markey Township, Michigan, in the spring.
