Robert S. Jenkins of Houghton Lake

Robert S. Jenkins, 92, of Houghton Lake passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Munson Health Care Grayling Hospital.

Robert was born on May 15, 1925 in Bay City, Michigan to Eathern and Margaret (Lunger) Jenkins. He grew up in the Bay City area and graduated from high school in Bay City. Robert served as a Tec 4 in the Army during World War II and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a Navy photographer during the Korean War. He received many medals including Expert Infantryman Combat Badge, and European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with 2 bronze stars and Bronze Arrowhead.

Robert worked as a Supervisor of Janitorial Services for Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids for many years before his retirement. He moved to the Houghton Lake area from Grand Rapids twelve years ago. Robert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying.

Surviving Mr. Jenkins are several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Kathryn Norine Riessen.

Memorial Services for Robert S. Jenkins will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 from St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Ted Voll officiating. Interment will be in Denton Township Cemetery, Prudenville. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 am until the service at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions in memory of Robert are asked to be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com.
