Bobcats bowlers roll in Clare tourney

CLARE — The Houghton Lake bowling teams were in Clare on Saturday, Jan. 7 for the singles tour. The girls bowled first shift.

In a field of 49, counting a total of four games, Emma O’Toole rolled a 514 series and finished in 19th place. Brook Pepper rolled a 502 for 21st. Bri Sposeto scored a 420 for 36th. Mia Lopez finished with a 397 for 39th. Madison Speer had a 267 for 47th. Girls high scores were O’Toole with a 150 game and Pepper with a 146.

“We felt like the girls performed petty well with two placing in the top 20,” coach George Rieger said.

The boys had second shift. There was a field of 65.
Placing fifth was Luke Rieger with a 788. He received a fifth place metal and conference award. Next was Matt Gibbons with a 579 for 30th. Alex Smith finished with a 524 for 42nd. Zac Crawfis rolled a 522 for 43rd. Nolan Akin had a 422 for 55th. Lance Canfield 392,61. Dylan Kelley had a 259 for 65th.
High scores for the boys included a 234 and 200 by Canfield, a 173 by Gibbons and a 155 by Smith.

“Dylan is new to the team and just started in the past week,” Coach Rieger said. “We give him a lot of credit for coming out to compete.The boys competed well and placed fairly respectably in the tournament.

“Luke was on top of his game and was in the top five standing all four games. After the first two he was in first place. After four games he fell to fifth, just six pins shy of forth place.
