Sasquatch Gravel Chase raises funds for Medical Center

WEST BRANCH-– MyMichigan Health Foundation hosted the 3rd Annual Sasquatch Gravel Chase bike race at Ogemaw Hills Snowmobile Club in West Branch on Sat., Aug. 3. More than 75 riders competed in the event, raising funds to support equipment and patient enhancements at MyMichigan Medical Center West Branch.

“The support that we receive to help make this event a success each year is just incredible,” said Nicole Potter, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “We are especially grateful to our partners at Ogemaw Hills Snowmobile Club who host the event, and all of our volunteers, riders and West Branch community members who support the Gravel Chase, and look forward to seeing everyone back next year.”

The gravel race features 18-, 40- and 50-mile route options with challenging hills. This year’s winners included Clark Kent, men’s 18-mile; Dave Levett, men’s 18-mile fat tire; David Yancey, men’s 40-mile; Casey Smith, men’s 40-mile fat tire; Zach Stein, men’s 50-mile; Thomas Canale, men’s 50-mile fat tire; Valerie Hollis, women’s 18-mile; Brianna Kammer, women’s 18-mile fat tire; Alicia Trevino, women’s 40-mile; Michele Bice, women’s 40-mile fat tire; and Courtney Meyet, women’s 50-mile.

“I race approximately 30 cycling events every year across the U.S.,” said Pamela Harper, Gravel Chase participant and co-founder of the I Love Gravel Racing team. “I have attended the Sasquatch Gravel Chase every year and will continue to attend. The race provides courses that are challenging for beginners as well as professional racers. The value, safety, catering and scenery are second to none. I would encourage anyone to participate in this event!”

 

Sponsors for this year’s event included Griffin Beverage Company, Team Hodges, Team Stover, Team ILGR, MyMichigan Health and the Ogemaw Hills Snowmobile Club. The 4th Annual Sasquatch Gravel Chase will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024.
