WEST BRANCH — Grayling’s girls basketball team put the brakes on a five-game losing streak Tuesday night with a resounding 50-29 victory over West Branch Ogemaw Heights in a non-conference game on the road.
Mackenzie Castle scored 16 points and Rylan Finstrom added 15 to lead the Lady Vikings, while Jasmine Youngblood contributed seven while Lexi Trudeau and Lauren Hartman added four apiece.
“We started off with high energy and tremendous defense,” Grayling head coach Daniel Brandt said. “We took an early lead and never looked back as the girls played with intensity and heart all night at both ends of the floor.”
Brandt went on to say that the Lady Vikings moved the ball extremely well to create great scoring opportunities, and finished around the rim.
It was a collective effort defensively as well, as the Lady Vikings hustled all over the floor to force turnovers and limit Ogemaw to few good looks at the basket.
The Lady Vikings improved to 4-10 overall and will next see action Thursday at home against Kalkaska in a Lake Michigan Conference game.
