Vikings 8th graders split contests

GRAYLING – On Monday, Jan. 20 the 8th Grade Girls Basketball team lost a close home open against Traverse City St. Elizabeth 24-22.
 
The leading scorer for the Vikings was Emma Kuziel with 14. She also contributed 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 2 assists, and a steal.
 
Leading the way defensively for the team was Makayla Watkins with 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots, 2 assists and 12 steals.
 
Other stats on the night were: 
Shelby Swander with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocked shots, and 1 assist
Rylan Finstrom with 2 points and 3 rebounds
Mandy Andrews with 2 points and 1 steal
Amanda Lewis with 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 4 steals
 
 
On Wednesday. Jan. 22, the 8th grade Lady Vikes hosted Cherryland (Elk Rapids) in another very close game, but this time the Vikes came out on top 38-36.
 
“This was a back and forth game right up until the end. It was impressive to watch the girls improve on their weaknesses for our previous loss and be able to close out the game this time,” Frisbee said. 
 
Leading scorers for the Vikes were Kuziel with 17 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals; Lilly Odden with 9 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal; and Finstrom with 6 points and 4 rebounds.
 
Other contributors included: Majorie Hair iwth 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal
 
The Vikings face East Jordan at home tonight.
