REGION- Six members of Alpena’s SkellaFit Powerlifting Team competed at the AWPC World Championships on Friday in Idaho Falls, Idaho. All six lifters ended the day victorious, placing 1st in their respective divisions.
The event in Idaho hosted over 200 competitors from 14 different countries including Algeria, Armenia, Bahamas, Cameroon, Canada, Finland, Great Britain, India, Italy, Mongolia, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine, and USA.
“APF lifters have traveled the world to events, made lasting friendships, and enjoyed the excitement of powerlifting for the loyalty, respect and love of the sport,” said event organizer Linda Higgins. “Can you hear that?” added the online stream announcer for the event, David Shirley from Invictus Powerlifting, “That’s the sound of the team cheering for each other.”
The Alpena lifters were notified during the competition that they would be seven of the 12 lifters representing the USA Powerlifting Team at the World Powerlifting Congress’s World Championships in Durban, South Africa. Teammate Elle Bee was not at the AWPC competition but will be joining the team when they travel internationally.
SkellaFit Powerlifting will go on to compete in South Africa this November. The public is invited to a fundraising Pep Rally at PIF Cider on Sat., Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. The team also has a fundraising site and is selling specialty themed merchandise at SkellaFit.com
