GAYLORD – After seven years of growing tennis activity for both youth and adults, the Otsego County Sportsplex Tennis Center is undergoing a much-anticipated court resurfacing project.
Opened in May 2018, the facility was made possible through the efforts of the Alpine Regional Tennis Association (ARTA), which raised more than $325,000 for its construction.
The resurfacing comes as ARTA programs continue to thrive, drawing participants of all ages from across the region. The Tennis Center offers a range of opportunities including beginner instruction, skill-building clinics, competitive leagues, and tournaments. Special youth lines are marked on the courts, creating smaller playing areas that make the game more accessible and enjoyable for children, promoting early success and a love for the sport.
To help fund the resurfacing, ARTA applied for a United States Tennis Association (USTA) Facility Grant on behalf of the Sportsplex. Thanks to a generous contribution from the USTA, the project was able to move forward this spring.
Work officially began on May 16, 2025, with Pro Surfaces—a professional resurfacing company based in Harrison, Michigan—leading the effort. Weather permitting, the newly refinished courts are expected to reopen ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
