Bucks travel to Port Huron for Skippers Showcase

PORT HURON – Roscommon traveled to St. Clair County Community college last week to play in the SC4 Skippers Showcase.

The Bucks fell 45-40 despite being paced by Joel Ewald, who scored a career-high, 19 points, including four 3-pointers.

“We started our strong against a senior-laden Marlette team (12 seniors on the roster) before they made a run to close out the first quarter,” said Roscommon Coach Joel Ewald.

Ewald said the team got some great “hustle minutes” from Ty Thornton (eight point) and Ben Hamina (seven points).

“I’m pleased with our defense overall as the kids made Marlette work for shots,” Ewald said. “We did get ourselves in trouble, though, when we couldn’t stop their transition game in the first half.

“We continued to battle throughout the game, cutting Marlette’s 8-point fourth quarter lead to three, but couldn’t get any closer.”

Freshman Sawyer Griffis and sophomores Alex Thiel and Brock Pelleran worked hard in the post against Marlette’s bigs.

“We did show some … improvement, and are continuing to get better,” Ewald added

Next games: vs. Lake City (1-7-22) @ Manton (1-11-22) vs. Evart (1-13-22)
