ROSCOMMON– Join us at Gahagan Nature Preserve on Saturday, May 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. as we celebrate World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD)!
This year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts—Your Observations Matter,” shines a spotlight on the vital role of community participation in tracking and protecting migratory bird populations. Citizen science, whether through backyard bird counts or large-scale surveys, provides valuable insights into species distribution, abundance, migration patterns, and breeding success. These data help identify conservation priorities and shape effective protection strategies.
By taking part in these efforts, we not only contribute to important scientific research but also deepen our connection to nature, raise awareness about the challenges migratory birds face, and inspire meaningful conservation action.
During our event, we’ll discuss ongoing citizen science projects, explore tools like eBird and Merlin, and then hit the trails at Gahagan to put our new knowledge into practice!
