Big turnout, vintage sleds and races highlight Snowmobile Extravaganza

HOUGHTON LAKE–The fifth annual Fast Eddie’s Vintage and Classic Snowmobile Extravaganza took place during the weekend of Feb. 10 with over 200 entries into Saturday’s races and 163 vintage and classic snowmobiles on Houghton Lake’s East Bay.

Organizer Eddie Korbinski said it was ‘the largest turn out we’ve had in our five years of having this event.’

Before the races on Saturday afternoon, 15 year old Sierra Vass of Houghton Lake sang the National Anthem. Standing beside Vass holding up the American Flag tall and proud was Roscommon County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Richardson. After the anthem was sung, Pastor Bryan Thompson of Houghton Lake Wesleyan Church said a prayer over the racers and the event.

The races began Saturday afternoon with sleds flying down the two lane drag strip; followed by the Vintage Ride later that afternoon.

This year’ Vintage Ride across the lake over to the parking lot of the Spikehorn Restaurant and Lounge raised approximately $260 for cancer patient Megan Pachorek of St. Helen. There was also the Bikini Radar Run on Sunday which had 3 ladies racing and raised over $300 for cancer patient Wendy Sebert of Roscommon.

‘We are always looking for someone that could use the helping hand to raise money for them and help them in at least some small way each year,’ Korbinski said.

Sunday held Grudge Racing, Kid’s Mini Z Races, a Couples Contest and the handing out of much deserved trophies at Eddies Bar & Grill.

The Award for Best of Show went to Tim Kreager of Carlton, MI.

‘We awarded a large number of trophies this year and the event was very successful. We were lucky enough to have nice weather and our best turn out yet,’ organizer Eddie Korbinski said.

Throughout the weekend event there were also vendors for beverages, food, and merchandise along with Bells Bear Chainsaw Art by Sean Bell with his son TJ Bell.

Plans for next year’ February event is already underway with some changes and additions in the works.n
