Larry James Luxon, of Tawas City, Michigan, and formerly of Holly, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on August 27, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan, Larry lived a life defined by hard work, and an appreciation for time with family. Larry married Charlene Sue Sutton in 1973, and together they shared more than fifty years of marriage and family adventures with their children and grandchildren.
Larry began his career as a plumber and pipefitter with Detroit Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #98, contributing to the construction of several major industrial projects, including the Cook Nuclear Power Plant near St. Joseph, Michigan, in 1978. In the mid-1980s, he joined General Motors at the Pontiac Truck and Bus facility as a pipefitter, where he remained until his retirement in 2009. He took tremendous pride in his work, his craftsmanship, and the friendships he made throughout his career.
Larry had a love of the water which began in childhood during summers at the family cottage in Grand Bend, Ontario. There he could often be found on his beloved boat, waterskiing with his cousin Roy, creating memories that remained among his favorites throughout his life. Boating became a lifelong passion. Whether at the helm of a powerboat or trimming the sails on Lake Huron, Larry found peace on the water. Family camping and boating trips to Burt Lake and Indian River became cherished traditions, and in later years he and Sue spent countless hours aboard their sailboat in Tawas, exploring the beautiful Lake Huron coastline together.
An avid fisherman, Larry treasured every opportunity to spend time on the water with his children and grandchildren. His greatest catches were often the memories made while telling stories, laughing, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
Golf was another of Larry’s great passions. He loved the challenge of the game, the camaraderie it brought, and any opportunity to spend a beautiful day on the course with family and friends. Larry also had a lifelong love of hockey. Throughout his life he played the game, both on ponds and in leagues. Throughout his life he remained a devoted fan of the Original Six era. A die-hard Red Wing’s fan, he loved the match-ups with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens, and Hockey Night in Canada on CBC was a weekend tradition that was never to be missed. In his younger years, Larry also enjoyed motorcycle racing, a passion he proudly shared with both of his sons. He found great joy in introducing them to the sport and watching their own love of riding grow.
Above all else, Larry loved his family. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, whether on a fishing trip, at the campground, on the golf course, aboard a boat, or gathered around a fire sharing stories.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of more than 53 years, Charlene Sue Luxon; his sister, Janet Cousins; his children, Bryan Luxon, Kevin (Christina) Luxon, and Julie (Scott) Agee; his grandchildren, Brent (Ashley) Luxon, Blake Luxon, Ella Luxon, Jacob Agee, and Noelle Agee; and his treasured great-granddaughter, Farrah Luxon.
Larry was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Oscoda, located at 4685 Huron Street. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
