Jacqueline Sue “Stump” Helsel, age 67, of Grayling, died on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at her home in the presence and comfort of her family.
Jackie was born October 5, 1958, in Grayling, Michigan, she was the daughter of Ralph and Betty (Wakeley) Helsel.
Jackie, or more affectionately known as “Stump” was a key member of the American Legion & Lanes in Grayling Michigan. You could find her behind the bar, serving drinks, behind the counter in the bowling alley or throwing her own bowling ball down the alleys. Stump was in many bowling leagues with her mom, Betty; sister, Terri; and brother, Ralph Jr. Stump worked at the Grayling Hospital as a dietary aide, which was one of her favorite jobs. Of all the jobs she held, the one titled “Mom and Grandma” were the ones she was the most proud to hold.
Anyone entering the backdoor knew they were walking into a friend’s house and about to sit at the table to enjoy the “best cup of coffee in town”, Jackie always kept your coffee cup full and a smile on your face with her stories, laughter and genuine heart of gold.
Jackie will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jackie’s legacy of humor, perseverance and a lifetime of memories are left to carry on without her by her son, Josh of Grayling; granddaughter, Myleigh; sisters, Terri, Candy, Suzanne and Penny all of Grayling; brother-in-law, Jay Dannenberg of Grayling; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Betty; brother, Ralph Jr; sister-in-Law, Carolyn; brother-in-laws, Ed Papendick, Tom Sorenson and Larry Tobias; and her niece, Angie Moggo. Also proceeding her in death was Mike Hultgren, the one who held her heart.
Jackie has requested a private family/friends celebration of her life be held in her honor.
