Born on September 2, 1949 in West Branch, MI where he was raised and enjoyed all the typical childhood adventures of rural life such as hunting and fishing. He was known as Dad, Nellie, Nelson, Mr. Wood, PawPaw, Grandpa, Grandpa Nelson, Mr. Nelson, PoPo, Shrek, and Caryn’s Gentle Giant. What do you want to be called? His response, “Doesn’t matter as long as I’m called.”
He is survived by his sons James and Michael (Tara); grandchildren Drake, Mia, MaRhea; great grandsons Brantlee and Weston; sisters Carolyn (Terry), Jessie (Jacob); and many beloved cousins.
Also surviving him, the love of his life of twelve years, Caryn Ann Schutte; “Ma” Caryn’s mother, Carol Dickson; and those he also considered children Phillip (Jackie), Teresa (Jason) and Jonah (Jessica); fifteen more grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law; as well as, nieces and nephews.
He truly looked forward to being reunited with his grandparents, parents, James and Laura (Smiley) Wood, and many others he loved that passed before him. May they all Rest in Peace.
