Richard D. Orr
Age 75, of National City, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 13, 2026, at his home. Richard was born the son of Richard and Norma (Smith) Orr on August 1, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan. He grew up in Royal Oak and went to school until the 12th grade. Richard then entered the United States Army where he proudly served our country for two years. He was stationed in Fort Dix in New Jersey and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal before he was honorably discharged with the rank of PVT. 1st Class in 1969. When he returned to Michigan following his time in the Army, he began his work career as a welder in the automotive industry. He was employed by Inalfa in Auburn Hills for 17 years and retired from work in 2020.
On February 14, 1997, he married his loving wife, Sherry (Brandenburg) Orr. The two of them spent the next 29 years together making several unforgettable memories. In May of 2022 the couple relocated themselves to National City, Michigan, and have spent the last four years in the area. Some of Richard’s favorite hobbies consisted of being an avid Nascar fan, going camping with his friends and family, being outdoors, boating, and water skiing. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Richard was an incredible husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, and he will be missed dearly by many.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sherry Orr; Children, Kelly Hudgens, Christy (Jon Hintz) Orr, David (Charlene) Shuten, Roger (Julie) Shuten, and Michelle (Kevin Clinton) Rescorla; siblings, Cindy Orr, John (Christine) Orr, and Julie Orr; grandchildren, Anthony (Rachael), Joshua, Ryan, Felicia (John), Samantha, David (Libby), Tristan, Dillan, and Jena; great grandchildren, Isabella, Zoey, Rosie, Ryan Jr., Kristoff, Jayden, Vivienne, Amelia, Sawyer, Maverick, Colt, and Hunnie; and several nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Norma Orr; and Pam Carl.
Per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
