Anne “Annie” Kaffenberger of Hale, Michigan passed away Monday, July 7, 2025 at the age of 94. She leaves behind a legacy of a very close-knit family and friends with whom she was very proud of. She was “One Heck of a Woman”; Wife, Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, who was born to Henry Mansbach Livingston and Lorna Emaline Hoffman on March 12, 1931 in the Township of Clawson, Michigan.
Anne was known for speaking her mind, not holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. She always told you the truth even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. She never sugar coated anything. Everyone always knew where they stood with her. Her words of wisdom, encouragement, and comfort, appealed to those she made acquaintance with and helped strengthen their relationship.
She attended Deckerville Community Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln Park High School. She worked at AAA and Fisher’s Department store. She married Eugene on March 11, 1950 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Lincoln Park. They settled in Allen Park, where they raised their seven loving children; Mary Serpetti (Mike), Frank (Tina), John (Deana), the late James (Lisa) Steven, Carol, and Gene (Lisa). She had nine grand-children; Angela, Michael, Eric, Christopher, Kelley, David, Jason, Kristen & Caitlin and fourteen great grand-children; Carly, Cassie, Tauri, Naveah, Maddox, Lucas, Leila, Lucy, Andrew, Brenden, Evan, Anna, Peyton & Noah.
She is survived by Nieces; Linda (Steve) Kelke, Barb (Bob) Srock, and Nephews: Daniel (Angie) Rowntree and Jerry (Karen) Handley. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and two siblings; James & Dorene Rowntree.
Mrs. Kaffenberger was a woman of faith. While in Allen Park, she was an active member of her community and St. Frances Cabrini Church, managing the food co-op and summer festivals, she became the youngest member of the Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and member of the choir.
In 1983, retirement found Anne & Eugene seeking a home in Northern Michigan. They found a cottage in Hale and quickly made it home. Once settled in, they became active members of St Pius X Catholic Church. Anne’s life revolved around the church. She resumed her roles as Eucharistic minister, Lector and sang in the choir. She quickly became a member of the Council of Catholic Women, where she is still known for sharing a reading at each meeting. She volunteered for the Vacation Bible School program, helped run the funeral luncheons and with seasonal decorations.
She loved flowers, birds, cows, writing poetry and painting. Her activities, artistry and writing skills earned her many ribbons, certificates and awards through the years. She was a very social person and led a full life with family, countless friends, like her best friend – Karol Shellenbarger, and Church and volunteer associates. She walked with the Lord on Earth, and is in his presence today.
Funeral services will be offered on Tuesday, July 15 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale, Michigan. The family will receive friends at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service; 11:00 AM, with a luncheon following in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked memorial considerations be directed to the Hale Area FISH Store, or for mass intentions at St Pius X for Anne or one of your loved ones.
