Ruth Carol Rivera
Age 91, of Oscoda, MI, formerly of Napoleon, OH passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at Oscoda Fields Assisted Living. She was born on December 31, 1933 in Toledo, OH to the late Edward Ross and Florence Ann (Glaeser) Liberty.
Ruth obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Capital University in Columbus, OH. She worked as a music teacher for the Detroit Public School System for 30 years, retiring in 2000.
Ruth married Carmelo Matias Rivera on February 17, 1962 in Detroit, MI and together, they cherished 39 years of marriage. Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, especially Irises, playing the pipe organ and piano, relaxing at the lake while watching the seagulls and spending time with her cats and family. Ruth was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Oscoda, MI.
She is survived by her children, Norma Warah of Oscoda, MI, Paul (Sharon) Rivera of Greenbush, MI, Carol (Patrick) Pelltier of Romeo, MI, Bruce (Jennifer) Rivera of Beverly Hills, MI; step-son, Jose (Betty) Matias of Fraser, MI; grandchildren, Sara, David and Bethany Rivera, Topher and Jenna Rivera and Alexis, Timothy and Tiffany Pelltier; great-grandson, Elliot Boldin; nieces and nephews, Ross Gemmill, Rosemary Golden, Renee Thakali, Adela Rivera and Nilda Guzman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carmelo Rivera; daughter, Rosemary Renee Rivera; sister, Dorothy (Lester) Gemmill and brother, Bruce (Fran) Liberty.
There will be a visitation on Monday, April 7, 2025 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Oscoda, MI.
