Gary Hiram Long
August 22, 1950 – February 2, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Long, who departed this life surrounded by family on February 2, 2025, at the age of 74.
He was born on August 22, 1950, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Jennie (Borgman) and Harold Long. Gary lived a life full of perseverance in his younger years coming from a life of poverty and living the American Dream filled with love and success. He was known for his strength and character and is described as a great man by the people that knew him. He had a 36-year career at United Parcel Service that he was incredibly proud of.
His career took him to multiple cities across Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida. In retirement, he was known for his community involvement by starting the first boosters in Roscommon schools and serving his community as an elected trustee for Gerrish Township and President of the Roscommon Rotary.
When he wasn’t doing these things, you could find him boating with his beloved family and friends, hunting or fishing, golfing, and smoking a good cigar with his buds, every now and then.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Pamela (Van-Y) Long; daughter, Andrea (Dave Singh) Long; son, Sean (Ayanna Williams) Long; and grandchildren: Max Singh and Maya Kaur; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories, on February 9, 2025, for a Memorial Service, at 2:00 PM, with a gathering prior, from Noon-2:00 PM, at Walsh and Wagner Funeral Directors, 143 Lake Street, Roscommon, Michigan 48653.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to University of Michigan Transplant Center or University of Michigan Cardiology Center, in honor of Gary’s memory.
