Mr. John Alan Burgett, 72 of Hillman, Michigan died suddenly on July 1, 2024 at his home. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 5, 1951 to the late Robert and Nancy (Weese) Burgett. He has resided in Hillman since 2017 but has vacationed here for the past 30+ years. John was an enthusiastic member of the Hillman VFW Post 2356. Before moving to Hillman, John worked as the groundskeeper and Coach for Grass Lake Community Schools. His passion for coaching led to many great relationships on and off the field. He also owned and operated Burgett Farms, providing dairy, beef, and grain. John was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan State Spartans. He truly enjoyed hunting, fishing and being on “The Pond.” John will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son, Josh (Melissa) Burgett; grandchildren, Harper and Easton; uncle, Patrick (Ellen) Burgett, and niece, Vivian Burgett. He also leaves great friends in Hillman and Grass Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nancy Burgett.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of John Burgett at Jack’s Landing in Hillman on Monday, July 8th from 4pm – 6pm and at Sherwood Funeral Home in Grass Lake on Wednesday, July 10th from 4pm – 6pm.
