Orland H. Kauffman, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, at the age of 90, in the compassionate care of Ascension long-term care. Born on December 19, 1933, in Cummings, Michigan, Orland was the son of the late Harvey and Alta (Steiner) Kauffman. His life was a testament to the values of family, hard work, and the simple joys of nature.
In 1955, Orland married his beloved wife, Donna Lee Mudge, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. Their union was blessed with three sons: Michael, Orland, and the late Kerwin Kauffman. Orland’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Wendi, Amanda, Traci, Jacob, Jordan, and his nine great-grandchildren, who will cherish the memories and lessons he imparted.
Orland was a proud graduate of Elkhardt University, where he earned a degree in radiology. His professional career was marked by his tenure at Ascension Standish Hospital, where he served with distinction until his retirement. Orland’s expertise and compassionate care left a lasting impact on both his colleagues and the many patients he helped throughout his career.
A man of many interests and talents, Orland was recognized as a champion woodsman lumberjack in 1963, a testament to his skill and passion for the outdoors. He was also a dedicated member of the IOOF Lodge, where he formed lasting friendships and contributed to the community.
Orland’s love for the great outdoors was most evident in his favorite pastime: hunting white-tails with his son on the family hunting property in Cummings. These treasured moments in nature were not just a hobby but a way of life that brought him immense joy and peace.
Known for his kind demeanor, interesting conversations, and adventurous spirit, Orland was a man who lived his life with enthusiasm and a genuine love for those around him. His brothers, Orland and Floyd Kauffman, will remember him as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. Orland was preceded in death by his brother Boyd Kauffman, and the bond they shared will continue to be honored by the family.
