Jean Brinkman, 92, of Higgins Lake

Jean Ann Brinkman, 92, of  Higgins Lake passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at home with her loving family by her side.

Jean was born on September 8, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan to Theodore and Anna(Berner) Detzur.  She grew up in the Detroit area, graduating from East Detroit High School.  She went on to get her teaching degree from Central Michigan University.  While in College Jean met the love of her life, Herbert A. Brinkman.  The couple were married in Detroit on  December 19, 1953. She was a teacher upon graduating from Central while Herbert was in Veterinarian School. Jean then became a full time homemaker and mother of five children.  Later becoming Herb’s office manager at the Gaylord Veterinarian Hospital. The couple lived in the Dearborn area until moving to Gaylord in 1978 and then settled on Higgins Lake in 1994 at their cabin which they had built in the early 1970’s. Jean was a member of Good Shepherd of the North United Methodist Church.  The couple enjoyed Square Dancing and traveled around the state or out of state to attend square dancing groups.  Jean enjoyed crossword puzzles and sudoku, and was known to have all the answers for her nightly watching of  Wheel of Fortune.  Her special love was being a loving and caring mother and grandmother for her family.

Surviving Mrs. Brinkman are her loving husband of 70 years, Herbert A. Brinkman of Higgins Lake; three daughters, Linda Brinkman of California, Deborah Tyler of Houghton Lake, and Susan(Michael) Graham of Kingsley; son, Richard(Anne Marie) Brinkman of Montana; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.  Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Doug Brinkman. 

A Celebration of Life Service for Jean Ann Brinkman will be conducted at the Lyon Township Hall, Higgins Lake, on Saturday June 15, 2024 starting at 1:00PM . Interment has taken place in Oakwood Cemetery, Lyon Township, Higgins Lake. Memorial contributions in memory of Jean are asked to be directed to Roscommon County Commission on Aging.
