Hamilton ‘Hammie’ McNichol, 81, of Oscoda

Hamilton “Hammie” D. McNichol, age 81, a lifelong resident of Oscoda, MI passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 21, 1942 in Alpena, MI to the late Hamilton L. and Ruth (Heginbottom) McNichol. Hammie graduated from Oscoda High School in 1962. He married the love of his life, Carolynn Dolphyn on January 20, 1968 at the Lady of Sorrows Church in Detroit, MI. Hammie began working at Oscoda State Savings Bank, working his way up from teller to the Vice President until 1980, when he went to work for W&S Development in acquisitions. He later worked in civil service at both Wurtsmith and K.I. Sawyer Air Force Bases. Hammie concluded his working career at Sage International, starting as a site manager and retiring as the production manager.

Throughout the years, he was a member of the Lions Club, Iosco Sportsman Club and the Michigan Outdoors Writing Association. Being an avid reader himself, Hammie was incredibly proud of his outdoor writing that was published in the Fur Fish Game, Woods and Waters, the Ruffed Grouse Society and the Michigan Sportsman and Shooting Sportsman. He was a true outdoorsman through and through and being in the woods seemed to be his sanctuary. Hammie was passionate about ruffed grouse hunting, shooting sports and he treasured the time he spent hunting with his son, grandson and buddies. The Dolmac Hunting Camp was his pride and joy, but of all his accomplishments and hobbies, being a husband, father and grandfather was at the top of his list.

Hammie is survived by his loving wife, Carolynn; son, Erik (Tracie) McNichol; brother, James (Sandra) McNichol; grandson, Connor McNichol and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Reynolds and Beth Campbell.

Interment will take place in Pinecrest Cemetery. You may offer your condolences online to the family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
