Dan Walburn, 73, of Gladwin

Danny (Dan) W. Walburn, aged 73, of Gladwin, passed away at home on Thursday, April 4, 2024. He was born on December 21, 1950, in Kendallville, Indiana, the son of Charles and Ruth (Ream) Walburn.  He attended Noble High School in Kendallville, Indiana.  After High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army, Americal Division, 1st Calvary, 11th Infantry as a Tank Commander during the Vietnam War (1969-1972). Upon returning from military service, he turned his love of cars into a 30 year career in car sales.

On June 30, 1972, Dan married Mary Lynn Schairer and for 51 years shared their journey through life. They were blessed with two children, Marylou and Kenneth.

Dan and Mary had a passion for travel. Among their favorite adventures was their dream trip to Norway in 2022 to witness the Northern Lights. They enjoyed road trips, listening to music and discovering new places. They cherished evenings spent playing card games late into the night with friends and family.  Several years ago they retired to Gladwin, MI in the Sugar Springs community, where they enjoyed the lake views, boating, plentiful community activities and making many new friends.

Dan is survived by his wife Mary, his children Marylou (Jen) Walburn, Kenneth (Jennifer) Walburn; Grandchildren Aaron (August) Cummins, Samuel Cummins, and Natalie Cummins; Brother, Steven (Sherry) Walburn, sister Melanie McDanel, brother-in-law, John (Caroline) Schairer, and sister-in-law Jeanne (Paul) Cairns and many nieces and nephews. Dan is also survived by special friends, Joyce and Andy Anderson, Lois and Mike Feider and U.S. Army friend, Jim Gillespie.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth and his father and mother-in-law Benjamin and Margaret Schairer.

Dan’s endless sense of humor could lighten any moment and bring joy to those around him; he will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Heartland Hospice especially Candy and Angie for their kindness and support.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on June 29, 2024 at 12:00 P.M. at the Hearth in Sugar Springs, Gladwin, MI. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathy are encouraged to consider contributions to the 100 Club of Nashville, supporting families of Nashville police officers injured or killed in the line of duty or the Shelterhouse in Midland.

Arrangements are in the care of Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home. www.hallkokotovichfuneralhome.com
