Joseph Wainwright, 97, of Tawas City

Joseph Herbert Wainwright of Tawas City passed away peacefully under the loving care of his family and the caring staff at the Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas City at the age of 97, on March 22, 2024.

Joseph was born in Bay County, the son of Frederick Wainwright and Virginia (Neering) Wainwright.  He married Vera Lois (Rapp) Wainwright on August 27, 1949, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Turner, Michigan.  Joseph grew up farming. After working as an independent builder, Joseph worked for 24 years and retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company.  He enjoyed 28 winters in Florida with his wife, Vera, and many friends from the Tawas area.

Joseph is survived by five children, Tari Hackborn of East Tawas, Mark (Sue) Wainwright of Tawas City, Kelly (Terry) Rayment of Mackinac Island, Jill Wainwright (Jack) of Grand Blanc, and Shannon (Rod) Loeffler of Tawas City; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother George “Judd” Wainwright of Oscoda; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera; his parents; seven siblings; his daughter, Dawn (Gregg) Housey of Bloomfield Hills; his granddaughter, Kristen Hackborn; and his great granddaughter, Roxanne Wainwright.  Joseph will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas with Father Nicholas Cooper officiating.  His family will welcome friends at the church on Wednesday morning for a time of visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of the mass.  He will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Cemetery in Tawas City.

Though we are heartbroken by his passing, we take solace in the knowledge that our father is now at peace in the arms of our Heavenly Father.  We find comfort in knowing that he is reunited with loved ones who have gone before him, and we trust in God’s promise of eternal life.
