Gregory “Grizz” Purtell, age 71 of Hale, MI, passed away peacefully at home on March 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Grizz was born on November 21, 1952, in Bay City, MI., to the late Richard and Blanche Purtell. Greg graduated from Pinconning High School in 1971, while at PHS he met his loving wife, Bonnie. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer. Grizz loved the water. He worked as a Great Lakes Merchant Marine before he spent 35 years at Consumers Energy as a Machinist and Hydroelectric Operator, he retired in 2008. Grizz enjoyed hunting, fishing, airplanes, gardening, and having a good time. He volunteered his time as a 4-H leader. Greg was a loving father, brother, and uncle, and will be missed dearly. Greg is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, son Jay, daughter Allison, one brother, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
The Purtell family will host visitors on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 3:00pm – 5:30 pm at the Buresh Funeral Home in Hale, MI., with a short formal service to follow.
