Margaret Purl, 98, of Gladwin

Margaret Elizabeth Puroll, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, at the age of 98, in Gladwin, Michigan. Born on August 16, 1925, in Mancelona, Michigan, to Micheal and Mary (Nic) Kresnak, Margaret’s life was a testament to her loving, generous, and faith-filled spirit.

On June 15, 1946, Margaret married the love of her life, Lucian Puroll, with whom she built a beautiful and enduring legacy. Together, they raised seven wonderful children: Barbara (Robert) Ketchel of Howell, Marilyn (Gary) Jordan of St Helen, Jerome (Lynne) Puroll of Lapeer, Michael (Diane) Puroll of Livonia, Margaret (Brian) Gifford of Berkeley, and Bernard (Lisa) Puroll of Ann Arbor. Her love and guidance extended to her 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.

Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lucian, her daughter Victoria Caporale, grandson Jeffery Caporale, granddaughter Yolanda Nagele, her parents, and her siblings Ann Klocek, Katherine Graham, Mary Kresnak, Rose Kresnak, Mary Dobie, Mike Kresnak, Paul Kresnak, John Kresnak, and Andrew Kresnak. She is survived by her sister, Rose Belanger of Bellaire, who, along with the rest of the family, will miss Margaret’s presence dearly.

After dedicating many years to raising her children, Margaret entered the workforce as a custodian for the Archdiocese of Detroit Bishop Borgess High School and later for the Dearborn School District. She retired at the young age of 75 and moved to Gladwin in 2001. In her retirement, she continued to serve her community by volunteering with Maple Manor Meals on Wheels, where her kindness touched the lives of many.

Margaret’s interests were as rich and varied as her life. Known for her mouth-watering apple pies and infectious laugh, she also had a beautiful singing voice that brought joy to those around her. Her deep religious convictions were evident in her devotion to reading about the Catholic Church, its saints, and religious teachings. Margaret’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence, and it shone brightly through her actions and her unwavering support of her family and community.

Those who knew Margaret will remember her for the warmth she brought into every room and the generous spirit with which she approached life. She was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a model of the virtues she held so dear. Her ability to see the good in others and her willingness to help wherever she could were hallmarks of her character.

Margaret’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of devotion, hard work, and an unshakable faith that inspired all who knew her. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.

The Puroll family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and friends who supported Margaret in her final years. Her journey was one of grace and dignity, and her memory will be treasured forever.

Margaret Elizabeth Puroll’s life was a gift to us all, and though she has left this earthly realm, her spirit will continue to guide and uplift us. May she rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that her life was well-lived and that her love will continue to echo through the generations. Margaret Puroll, much-loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother known for her mouth-watering apple pies, infectious laugh and singing ability (true? saw something on FB about that) died at age 98 on February 11 in Gladwin. Deeply religious, Mrs. Puroll was a devout Catholic who read many books on the Church, its saints and religious.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday February 15, 2024 at 12 Noon from Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Fr. J. Marcel Portelli presiding with burial in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Elmira, Michigan. Family will greet family and friends at the church on Thursday from 11 am until time of Mass.
