John LaFountain, 64, of Alger

John Wayne LaFountain, age 64, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He was born on September 9, 1959, in Charlotte, MI to Delmont and Edna (Walsh) LaFountain. He has lived in Alger for over 30 years, formerly of Ovid, MI.

On July 27, 2019, he married April Fry in Gladwin, MI.

John was a master carpenter who cherished his family and the role of being a “Papa” to his grandchildren.

John served in the Army National Guard and was a dedicated member. He later pursued a career with the Carpenters Union Local# 1004 in Lansing, MI, where he showcased his skills and work ethic.

In his free time, John enjoyed mowing his lawn, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and taking trips, especially to Alaska.

John is survived by his beloved wife, April LaFountain of Alger, and his children: Jordan LaFountain of Chesaning, MI, Michael (Ashley) Fry of Gladwin, MI, Austin (Ashley) Fry of Caddot, WI, Emily (Kenny) McLean of Gladwin, Tiara (Gavin) Owen of West Branch, MI, Victoria Thorne of West Branch, and Angel LaFountain of Lansing, MI. John is also survived by his sisters, Cynthia LaFountain, Vicky (Daniel) Pumford, Barbara (Glen) Nethaway, Teresa (Darryl) Hornbeck, and his cherished grandchildren: Thea, Landon, Kayelynn, Hazel, Alissa, McKenzie, Jaxson, Everest, and Gidian, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason, stepfather Ron Gallagher, and nephew Eric Perry.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday February 25, 2024, at the Horton Township Hall in West Branch from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
