Nancy Steffes-Glasslee, 83, formerly of Grayling

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Darlene Steffes-Glasslee, age 83, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Grayling, MI. She passed on from this life on January 3, 2024.

Nancy was born on January 12, 1940, in Ionia, MI, to Emmett and Anita (Chandler) Roche. Nancy loved golfing with friends, playing Bingo and was an avid bowler for much of her life. She was a member of the Grayling Eagles #3465 for many years, and enjoyed playing darts there.

Everybody loved her and never met a stranger; everyone was immediately her friend. Most of all, she loved her family, children, grandchildren and friends.

Nancy worked at many jobs, starting at an early age. She was an usher at the Ionia Theater while a teenager, worked as a typist in Grand Rapids, MI, did some line work at the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons, MI, was a dispatcher for the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department, and spent many years working at Camp Grayling, MI, as an operator and secretary, not to mention raising her family.

Nancy is survived by her loving children, Kelly (Michael) Foy, Donald (Dodie) Steffes and Yvonne (Jim) Golnick; stepdaughter Joanne Boyden; grandchildren Krysta (Christopher Quesenberry) Golnick, Joshua Golnick, Kris Minnick and Emily (Travis) Gabriel; step-granddaughters Cathrina (Kevin) James, Carmen Ridlington and Casey (Todd) Achterhof; great-granddaughters Kaylee Golnick and Nora Gabriel; brothers-in-law Karl Holther and Clifford “Tip” (Barb) Steffes; sisters-in-law Arline DeLange, Linda Belknap, Michelle VanKampen, Linda Steffes and Jessica Roche, along with many nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Emmett and Anita; husbands Donald J. Steffes and Harold O.  Glasslee; brothers and sisters, Robert Roche, Vivian Holther, June Fockler, infant sister Caroline Roche and Larry Roche; brothers and sisters-in-law Ben Fockler, Marie Beck, Angela Young, Marge Bowman, Joe Steffes, Kay Bright, Leola Peters, Delbert Steffes and Marilyn Steffes.

A memorial service will be scheduled at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in the spring. Internment of Nancy’s cremated remains will take place in Ionia, MI at a later date.

Condolences can be shared with Nancy’s family at www.sorensonlockwood.com.
