Marjorie Hanson, 85, of Au Gres

Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend Marjorie Ellen Hanson passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2024. Born on September 7, 1938, in Munger, Michigan to Willian and Ina Lynch, Marge was the youngest of 13 children. With 10 older brothers and two older sisters, Marge was the last surviving sibling.

Marge and the late Robert J. Hanson fell in love at first sight, and married in June of 1962. The lived in Bay City with their two daughters before retiring to their home in Au Gres in 1990.

Bob and Marge loved to golf and socialize with friends and family until his passing in 2011. Marge was a devoted parishioner of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Au Gres and kept her faith until the end thanks to fellow parishioners who brought her communion and prayer when she was no longer able to attend.

Marge deeply cared about others and made her career as a social worker. She was particularly proud of obtaining her MSW from the University of Michigan at 40 years old. She retired from BAISD as a school social worker.

She is survived by her daughter Amy Reif (Jeff Cogan), son-in-law Ken Anderson, brother-in-law Richard Hanson, sister-in-law Judy Lynch, grandchildren Christopher Anderson, Emily Anderson, Kaitlin Reif (Renzo Libre), and Jacob and Alyssa Garety (Reif). She is also survived by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Marge was reunited in death by her late husband Robert J. Hanson, daughter Beth Anderson, son-in-law Kendall Reif, and all of her parents and siblings.

Visitation will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Au Gres, Michigan on January 5, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, and on January 6, 2024, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. A funeral mass will be held at the church on January 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Marjorie will be laid to rest next to her husband in Linwood Cemetery following the service.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to her Compassus caregivers, Maegan, Lexy, and Krystal who provided exceptional care and compassion to ensure her final days were spent in comfort and dignity. They wish to give another special thank you to her devoted niece, Sara Hanson, who spent countless hours providing care, companionship, and love to her Aunt Marjorie. A big thank you to all the other friends and family who visited, prayed, and kept her laughing. In lieu of flowers, please direct any memorial contributions to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of choice. You may leave an online condolence at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
