Elgene N. “Woody” Bendily, Jr., 71, lately of Mio, died at home on Wednesday, Dec. 20, with family by his side.
Woody was born on August 16, 1952 in Colorado Springs, CO to Elgene N. Bendily, Sr. and Patricia (Knox) Bendily. He was born into an Army family and was the first of six children.
As an Army ‘brat,’ Woody traveled the U.S. and Europe with his family before deciding to join the U.S. Navy in 1969 for his own career. During his 21-year career, Woody served in Saigon, Vietnam, numerous ships and shore stations and finished at the Bethesda Naval Hospital – now the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Woody was an avowed sci-fi fan and a self-taught computer technician. Following his Navy retirement, he joined forces with his sister Gloria to own and operate their own computer repair and services store in southern Mississippi.
Preceeding Mr. Bendily in death were his parents and brother Stephen Dale.
He was married three times and has three children who survive him – Elgene III, Carlos and Tanya. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Alexia and Carina.
Also surviving Woody are the rest of his siblings – Gloria Woodard of Mio, Francine (Roger) Green of Mio, Phil (Pat) Bendily of Roscommon, and Ivah Baggett of Grayling.
The Memorial service will be held at Lashley Funeral Home Saturday 01-13-2023 At 11:00 AM
