Sue Ann Murton, age 76, of Oscoda, formerly of Eaton Rapids, MI passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on April 4, 1947 to the late Harmonas and Rachael (Anthonisse) Gilman. Sue graduated from Godwin Heights High School in Grand Rapids, MI and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. She married the love of her life, James L. Murton on June 21, 1969 and together, they celebrated 54 years of marriage and friendship.
Sue worked as an Asian Program Director for Bethany Christian Services, International Services, in Grand Rapids, MI until her retirement. James and Sue also owned and operated Anchorage Cottages in Oscoda for many years. She enjoyed reading, decorating her home and most importantly, spending time with her family.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, James; children, James “Jim” (Jennifer) Murton, Jon (Shannon) Murton, Jason (Salina) Murton and Rachael (John) Sosa; grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Kaleb, Michaela (Drew) Kammeraad, Katie, Chandler, Linken, Chelsey, Sloan, Keena and Asher; great-granddaughter, Murphy Kammeraad and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Westrate.
The family will welcome friends on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 10:30 until the time of service beginning at 11:30 am at Tawas Presbyterian Church in Tawas City, MI.
