Richard J. Shoemaker, age 98, of Prudenville passed away on Thursday December 21, 2023 at Medilodge in Traverse City.
Richard was born on January 7, 1925 in Alma, Michigan to John and Amanda (Porter) Shoemaker. He served in the US Army during WWII. Richard was married on January 3, 1947 in Rosebush to Beverly Thompson. He worked for Total Gas in Alma for many years. Richard was a Mason, member of the Roscommon VFW Post 4159, Houghton-Higgins Lake Elks Lodge for over 50 years and the Eagles. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alma and the Kirk of the Lakes Presbyterian Church of Prudenville. Richard enjoyed visiting with people.
Richard is survived by his son; Michael (Linda) Shoemaker of Lake Ann, grandchildren; Peter Shoemaker, Joseph Shoemaker and Amy (Tom) Northway, several great grandchildren and companion; Josey Swank. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Beverly Shoemaker and son; Dr. Rodney Shoemaker.
A Military Honors graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Alma. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is serving the family. Condolences can be sent to the family online at www.christler-holdship.com
