Daniel Lee Newport, age 76, of Higgins Lake, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his home in the presence and comfort of his family.
Dan was born December 14, 1947, in Owosso, Michigan, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Harvey) Newport.
Dan married Barb Bottum on March 10, 1972, in St. Johns, Michigan.
Dan was a veteran who served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. Dan was an avid model plane enthusiast. He was a member of the Roscommon Flyers Club. He had been a prior member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Dan enjoyed golfing, fishing, and shooting sports. He loved to travel with Barb. A few places they loved to visit were Destin and Perdido Key, Florida, as well as Alaska and the Grand Canyon.
Dan will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barb, of 51 years; daughter, Kim (Brian) Bousquet of Beaver Island, Michigan, son, Jason Newport of Lansing, Michigan; grandson, Tyler; brother, David (Patty) Newport; sister, Marilyn Stuart; sister, Marlene (Dan) Bissett; sister, Yvonne Newport; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents.
Dan’s family has chosen to remember him privately at this time.
