Ralph Stephan, 81, of Houghton Lake

Ralph David Stephan, age 81, of Houghton Lake passed away on Thursday November 9, 2023, at his present residence, The Brook of Roscommon. Per Ralph’s request, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be placed next to his wife, Pam in Denton Township Cemetery.

Ralph was born August 3, 1942 in Detroit, but lived in Harper Woods, the son of William Charles (Dorothy Irene Leuffgen) Stephan. He was a 1960 graduate of Harper Woods High and right after attending RETS Electronic School. His work years started with Montgomery Ward repairing TV’s, then he was hired at General Motors-Warren Plant working in emissions control. Later he became supervisor, and was in charge of scheduling building maintenance for the General Motors-Allen Plant. He spent 30 years working for General Motors living in Sterling Heights and later, Utica.

After retirement he moved to Houghton Lake on the channel and resided there for 23 years. During retirement to keep busy and pursue his interests, he was a handy man doing mostly electrical and plumbing work in the Houghton Lake area. Ralph also spent three years in Florida at Lazy Days Motor Home Park explaining in detail all the amenities of each motor home sold to new owners. His hobbies were gardening, fixing motors and refurbishing old tractors which he would drive across the Mackinac Bridge. He loved his antiques and enjoyed having and going to garage sales. He belonged to a camping group and enjoyed traveling in his motor home. In addition, he helped at Project Hope with his wife, Pam.

Ralph is survived by his sister; Janice Stephan of Fenton, grandchildren; Travis and Addison Stephan of South Lyon. He was preceded in death by his parents; William and Dorothy, son; Thomas Miles Stephan and wife; Pamela Ann Millick Stephan. Memorials may be directed to Careline Hospice 4760 Fashion Square Blvd. Suite L 1, Saginaw, Michigan 48604. Christler Funeral Home-Prudenville Chapel is handling the arrangements.
