Jim McMonagle II, 69, of Grayling

James Patrick McMonagle II, age 69, of Grayling, MI passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, MI with his family by his side.

Jim was born on September 29, 1954 in Toledo, OH to his parents James and Barbara (Siegler) McMonagle.He graduated from Ida High School in 1972. That summer after graduation, James entered and served in the United States Army from 1972 to 1974. He married Cathy Anne Burch on August 1, 1999 in Gatlinburg, TN. He worked at the federal prison in Milan, MI for 24 years until his retirement. James was a member of the Grayling Eagles where he was a past president, Grayling Moose Lodge, American Legion in Lewiston, MI, and The Dundee Sportsmans Club.

James was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He was at one time ranked 6th in national trapshooting, which is quite an accomplishment. He enjoyed watching old Westerns in his leisure time. Jim was so proud of his son Jimmy and wife Grace, who own an apple orchard and work very hard for their family. He also loved spending time with his 5 grandchildren. His presence will be dearly missed.

James is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cathy McMonagle; son, James (Grace) McMonagle III; grandchildren, Hosanna, Lydia, Abigail, Malachi, and Abram; sisters, Karen Iott and Kathy Rupert; mother-in-law, Ruth Burch; uncle, Ronnie (Linda) Siegler; several nieces and nephews; and his fur-baby, Sarge.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents James and Barbara, father-in-law Thomas Burch, niece Bethany Burch, and sister Deborah Keefer.

Visitation will take place Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 5-7 PM with a Rosary at 6:30 PM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Grayling, MI. Military Honors will follow the service. A luncheon will be held following all services at the Grayling Eagles.
