Doyle Troyer, 82, of Fairview

Doyle Verdan Troyer, age 82 of Fairview, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday,
October 18, 2023 while working outdoors after spending the day with his family.
Doyle was born in Atlanta, Michigan to David and Edna (Gascho) Troyer. He was
welcomed home by his older sister, Melba and spent his childhood in Fairview.
On June 20 th 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Smith in
Fairview. They were blessed with 4 children.
Doyle was a working man. By age 15 he started working with his dad laying blocks
in Dayton, Ohio over the summers. Eventually he and his dad stayed in Fairview
fulltime doing masonry. He worked with his dad until 1978 when Davey retired
and Davey Troyer and Son Masonry became Doyle Troyer and son. He continued
block work full or part time long enough to add his grandson, Spencer to the
crew. He also worked for Kneeland industries often doing block work in the
evenings. He went with Dick Kauffman and Doug Handrich and worked in Texas
for a short time when construction was at a lull. He and Sy Yoder owned and
operated a sawmill in Graying until the mill burned. He continued to work for Sy
doing whatever Sy needed until Sy’s passing. In his words he retired last year at
age 81, but his definition of retirement wasn’t the same as Webster’s.
Doyle was an athlete in his younger days, playing baseball, basketball and running
track. Later he played fast pitch softball, bowling, and golf. He enjoyed attending
sporting events of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other kids
in the community who he grew to care about. When he wasn’t attending sporting
events, he could be found helping others, maintaining the discus and shot put
areas, making jenga games and buying Tigers’ bats to donate for the school
auction. Doyle was known for his warm smile and friendly disposition. He cared
for many people and had a gift for making acquaintances into friends. His greatest
love was caring for and spending time with his family, whether it was through
fixing car troubles or getting down on the floor to smile at the little ones. He will
be dearly missed.

Doyle is survived by his wife, Peggy; his children Darrin (Jill), Alesia (Duane)
Genow, Melony (Don) Haskin, and Stacy Nolan.
Grandchildren Spencer (Brianne) Genow, Shannon Genow, Megan (Adam) Roach,
Alora (Kevin) Ehlert, Aaron Haskin, David Haskin (Alissa), Kiersten Nolan, Derek
Nolan, and Luke Nolan. Great grandchildren Noah Blades, Jaye Genow, Arra Erbe, Jadyn Ehlert, Zella Roach, Parker Genow, Charlotte Ehlert, Cooper Genow, Alden Roach, and Hazel Ehlert. Great great grandchild Elias Blades.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dave and Edna, sister Melba Handrich,
niece Veronica Handrich and dear friend, Sy Yoder.
