Carl Steinhurst, 88, of Tawas

We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Carl Steinhurst on October 6, 2023 at 88 years of age, surrounded by his loving family. Dad was born on December 26, 1934 to Julius and Eleanor (Lehman) Steinhurst. He had 2 siblings – Robert (Joyce) Steinhurst, and Elaine (Carl) Kendall. He married Betty Kendall on February 5, 1955 and they enjoyed their 60th anniversary before Betty passed away in 2015. They had 2 children – Becky (David) Lockwood and Tamara (James) Dennis; 2 grandchildren, Leah (Ken) Tritt and Jared (Tamara) Dennis; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Tritt. Dad worked for GM in Flint briefly then the D&M Railroad until he realized he liked to work with his hands and became a builder. He also did his own masonry, including fireplaces. These skills later helped him to maintain the cement animals at the Tawas City Library and Gateway Park. Dad had many other interests – deer hunting and trapping at the Kendall Hunting Camp. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and golf then later turned to tennis and pickleball. Dad dearly loved his town of Tawas, which prompted him to join City Council and write letters to the editor. He will be greatly missed. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will privately celebrate his life.
