Lynn Van Buren, 72, of Prudenville

Lynn James Van Buren passed away on September 27, 2023, he was 72. He was born in Hastings, Michigan to James and Marilyn (Hunter) Van Buren of rural Sunfield, Michigan. Lynn graduated from Lakewood High School and was involved in wrestling and football. He went to the State Tournament in wrestling. He enlisted in the Marine Corp after high school and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War.

After the war. He worked at Hanna’s Meat Plant in Sunfield before moving to Harrison to work at Ashcraft’s Family Store. He was the meat manager. He continued to process deer after his retirement.

From a very early age, Lynn and his dad loved to deer hunt. He enjoyed his cabin at Mid Forest Lodge.

Lynn is survived by his daughters, Emily (Murray) Horkoff and Dianna (Robert) Kozak and his son, Alexander of Beaverton. Lynn is also survived by his granddaughters, Ella and Molly Kozak. Lynn will be missed by his many friends, especially Mark Hanna, his childhood friend since they were four years old.

Lynn’s parents preceded him. He is survived by his sister, Kathleen (Marvin) Hengesbach, Nancy (Larry) Brown, Carol (Anthony) Santini and David (Denise) Van Buren as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be planned later. In lieu of flowers, should you desire to make a contribution to the family, send them to Emily Horkoff, 135 N Silverleaf, Gladwin, MI 48624. These will be distributed as the family wishes.
