John McDonald, 29, of Tawas City

Johnathon Joseph McDonald, 29, was born in Tawas City, MI on October 1, 1993. He passed away on August 31, 2023 and is survived by his parents, John and Mandi McDonald, brothers Ruben Maldonado and Shane McDonald, sister Cheyanne McDonald, nephews Dawson and Tucker, and niece Alice. He is also lovingly remembered by all the McDonald aunts, uncles, and cousins. While in school, John had many friends and made good grades. He enjoyed BMX biking and field sports, especially soccer, which he played throughout his senior year. He graduated Oscoda High School with Honors in 2011. As a young adult, John completed courses in business at Grand Valley State University, and afterwards pursued a career in construction. His most recent employment was with Can Do Contracting traveling all over Northern Michigan as a roofer. John worked hard and prided himself on being reliable, responsible, and accountable. Although the hours were long and tough, he made sure to be where he was needed for those who depended on him. John was a patient and devoted son, family member, and friend. He gave generously to those who needed help, and was mature, compassionate, and impartial during times of conflict and crisis. He was grateful for and loyal to all his friendships and family relationships and did his best to be there as much as possible for all of us. John also loved his beautiful best friend, his black Lab, Laken. She was always faithfully by his side whether ripping a roof, helping his family with farm chores, or enjoying the Au Sable River with his friends–they were always together. We invite those who knew him well and loved him to a viewing at Oscoda Buresh Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 from 3pm through 6pm. A date for a Celebration of Life will be determined later. The family is grateful and appreciative of all expression of love; but, in lieu of flowers, a deeply meaningful contribution would be to contact Alpena Sunrise Centre at (989) 356-6649 to make a donation. An online guest registry is available to leave a message of love and support for Johnathon’s family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
