Ed Bryzelak, 90, of St. Helen

Edward Anthony Bryzelak of St. Helen, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, surrounded by his children and grandchildren at the age of 90. Ed was born in Detroit, Mi to Stanley and Marion Bryzelak on May 6, 1933. He was the youngest of six children and also preceded in death by all of his siblings, Eleanor Bednarz, Anna Forys, Joseph Bryzelak, Chester Bryzelak, and Stanley Bryzelak.

Ed served two years in the US Army before being honorably discharged in 1955. He met the love of his life, Mary, shortly after his military service. They were married on May 5, 1956. They had four children, Edward Jr. (Susan), Gary, Lawrence, and Nancy (Gregory) Milbreath. After 30 years of being employed with General Motors, he retired. They decided to leave the city and move “up north” where they would enjoy many more years together. It didn’t take long for the rest of the family to follow. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage until Mary’s passing in 2013. Their four children blessed them with 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was affectionately known to many as “Pa”.

Pa cherished making memories with his family, whether it was late night card games, fishing, dancing at weddings, watching the Tigers and Lions, or family birthdays and holidays. During these get togethers, Pa would often wind up laughing ‘til he cried (usually at himself). He never complained (except in traffic) and was always kind. Pa was sincerely loved by his family, friends, and community.

He always said he had the best family, but it was because of him that made it that way.

Ed was also preceded in death by his daughters in law, Coleen Bryzelak and Christine Bryzelak.

A memorial service will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment of ashes will take place at Fairview Cemetery in St. Helen with veteran honors.
