Ernest ‘Matt’ Eichhorn III, 58, of East Tawas

Ernest Matthew Eichhorn III “Matt”, passed away very peacefully at his home in East Tawas under the loving care of his family and hospice on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, age 58 years. Matt was born in Detroit to Ernest M. and Joyce E. (Turner) Eichhorn II on June 13, 1965.

Formerly Matt resided in the Grand Rapids and Hartland areas, but more recently, he moved to the East Tawas community to live with his mom and sister. Matt earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Aquinas College and went on to practice a number of years as a licensed financial advisor. Matt was a voracious reader who enjoyed listening to music and taking the dog for long walks. He absolutely loved meeting new people and going to the Hartland Senior Center and Tawas Methodist Men’s Group. His simple pleasures included watching the Detroit Tigers, University of Michigan football games and Jeopardy on TV. His favorite board game was Monopoly, which he often played with his sister and nephew. He would never turn down a chance to get a Dairy Queen Blizzard, McDonald’s French fries, donut or popcorn. He was a good friend, son, brother, uncle and cousin. We will miss his beautiful smile and contagious laugh. May he rest in peace and do a victory dance in Heaven.

Matt is survived by his beloved mother, Joyce Eichhorn, his loving sister, Kirsten Eichhorn, both of East Tawas; nephew, Kaden Eichhorn of Flint; many aunts, uncles and cousins; and many dear friends. Matt is preceded in death by his father, Ernest M. Eichhorn II “Chip”. Cremation has taken place and Matt’s family will celebrate his life through a memorial service on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Tawas Methodist Church with Reverend Kris Kappler officiating. His family will welcome friends at the church that morning for a time of gathering from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service. There will be a fellowship meal held in the church social center for Matt’s family and friends to share together immediately following the funeral. He will be laid to rest in his family plot in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint at a later date.

Those wishing to express their condolences through a donation are encouraged to consider a gift in Matt’s honor to the Tawas Methodist Church, 20 M-55, Tawas City, MI. 48763. An online guest registry is available to leave a message of love and support for his family at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
