Hsui Lien Cherry, 74, of Grayling

Hsui Lien Cherry, 74, of Grayling, passed away on or about June 20, 2023.

Hsui Lien was born September 8, 1948 in Taipei, Taiwan to the late Lai Chun and Jin Chang.  Hsui Lien married Air Force Sergeant Edward Cherry and resided in Clearwater, Florida. The biggest day of her life was when she became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Sgt Cherry sustained service-related injuries with years in and out of the VA Hospital with death in 1999. The time spent with wounded vets made a serious impact on Hsui Lien and brought her to Grayling where she quickly became a member of the Carl W. Borchers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3736.  Hsui Lien fell in love with the community and dedicated her time as a volunteer greeter at Mercy Hospital (now Munson Healthcare) earning the highest ranked volunteer with more than 3,500 hours in a given year.

Hsui Lien earned her Associate’s degree at Kirtland Community College and performed her internship working two years as a Deputy Clerk for the County Clerk/Register of Deeds office in Crawford County. She was known across the community for her cooking abilities and was always willing to make a special dish for the occasion. She sold poppies for disabled vets and was known for her involvement in the American Legion and Lions Club of Grayling. She was the finest definition of a “good person”, always putting everyone’s needs above her own.

“A Celebration of Life” will be held on her 75th Birthday which will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2023 at her home at 5732 Wellington Way, Graying.

Arrangements entrusted to Sorensn-Lockwood Funeral Home.
