Carolyn Pump, age 77, of Tawas City, MI passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023. She was born on December 29, 1945 in Detroit, MI to the late Louis and Loretta Caretti (Ott).
Carolyn graduated from Regina High School in Harper Woods, MI and then earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Detroit where she met her husband Tony. She was always learning and her love for being a student led her to a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University in educational technology. Carolyn completed her student teaching in East Detroit before joining both the Walled Lake School District and Marygrove College. She taught English in the adult education program at the Ford Wixom Plant, Clifford Smart Middle School, and Walled Lake Central. Carolyn and her husband moved permanently to the area in 2007 and she became a very active member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres, MI.
Carolyn enjoyed quilting, reading, world traveling and the beauty of Lake Huron. She also loved birds, especially orioles and hummingbirds. Carolyn was an amazing cook and baker. She relished the role of being an ultimate caregiver by looking after so many people that will dearly miss her.
She is survived by her children; son John (Julie King) Pump of Happy Valley, OR, daughter Karen (Craig Combs) Pump of Gaylord, MI, son Thomas Pump of Spring, TX and her granddaughter Piper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Anthony J. “Tony” Pump and her brothers, Richard and Ronald Caretti.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am (instate at 10:00 am) on Friday, July 21, 2023 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Au Gres, MI. Rev. Thomas Kowalczk will officiate and the interment will follow in the Sims-Whitney Cemetery in Au Gres, MI.
