Sigrid Roth, 87, of East Tawas, formerly of Oscoda

Sigrid (Ollesch) Roth, a resident of East Tawas, formally of Oscoda, passed away on June 7, 2023 in Saginaw, Michigan.  She was born in Allenstein, East Prussia, Germany on May 10, 1936 to Johann and Hilda Ollesch.  Along with her sister Waltraud “Wally” Gesswein, she grew up in Allenstein, Germany.  After her school years and community college, she met and married an American soldier, Waldo Joseph Roth on December 23, 1955 in Giessen, Germany.  His assignments took them all over the United States, eventually settling in Oscoda and later she moved to East Tawas.  She worked in her parents bar / taxi business back home in Germany.  But most of her employment was in retail, such as various BX stores, Normans Clothing, Perry’s and Rite Aid Drug Stores.  When her son was in school she volunteered in the classroom as well as Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.  She enjoyed going on bus trips and attending classes with Sunrise Side Lifelong Learning Club.  She also enjoyed walking at the gym.  She was proud of walking the Mackinaw Bridge 4 times, the last being just a few years ago!  She was a member of Holy Family Church and Sacred Heart Church.  She enjoyed going to church and attending the Bible Study groups.  Her church was very important to her.  She even spent some of her youth in a convent in Germany. If you knew Sigrid, you knew that she had a gift to gab!  It didn’t matter if she talked to a stranger at the store or a friend or neighbor, she always had a lot to say.  And we will miss that.  Sigrid is survived by her grandson Trevor Scott Roth of Ypsilanti, and many friends.  Sigrid was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo in 1997, her son Michael John Roth (born 2-29-1968 – died 7-30-2022), and daughter-in-law Pam.  A funeral mass for Sigrid will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church in East Tawas at 11:00 AM.  Friends and family may pay their respects during a time of visitation at church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the beginning of mass.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oscoda following the mass.  Those wishing to make a donation in Sigrid’s name may consider a gift to Holy Family School.  Please share memories and condolences at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
