Elmer Toman, 86, of Roscommon

Elmer Phillip Toman, age 86, of Roscommon, died on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at his home in the presence and comfort of his family.

Phil was born February 10, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Elmer and Mary (Martinez) Toman.

Phil married Gerry Burrell on March 13, 1958, in Keesville, New York.

Phil was a veteran. He served his country in the National Guard as well as the United States Air Force. Phil retired as a Master Welder. He worked for Valassez Communications and retired in 1985. Phil volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Roscommon Thrift Store for 17 years. Phil was the type of person that took pleasure by helping others. He was known for being able to fix anything. Phil loved to work on small engines and work with anything mechanical, electric, even the plumbing. He enjoyed his woodworking. You could always find Phil doing something.

Phil will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gerry of Roscommon; children: Mark Toman of Madison Heights, Tammy Burton of Auburn Hills, Lesley (Jim) Nelson of Livonia, Steve (Tammie) Toman of Midland; grandchildren: Michael (Amber) Toman of Macomb Township, Steven (Katie) Toman of Utica; great-grandchildren: Cason, Ayla, Sadie Rae, as well as one on the way; brother, Tom (Paula) Toman of Apache Junction, Arizona; sisters: Mary Wolski of Rapid City, Jeanette Bedard of Berkley; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents.

Phil’s family has chosen to remember him privately at this time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wagner and Walsh Funeral Directors, Roscommon.
