Boyd Kauffman, 90, of Fairview

Boyd Kauffman was born near Comins, Michigan on September 16, 1932 to Harvey and   Alta Kauffman.  He died peacefully while at the Wellspring Luthern Nursing home on May 6, 2023.

He married Twila Handrich on August 29, 1953.  He attended Fairview Mennonite Church.  Boyd worked for H&Y Sales for 30 years driving their gas and fuel oil truck.  He was a school bus  Driver for 15 years. After retiring he worked part time in the Fairview Hardware until his accident on February 9, 2010.  It left him a quadriplegic. He was working in the woods cutting fire wood when a tree came back and severed his spinal cord. After Boyd retired, he and Twila bought a motor home and enjoyed traveling to different places until  his accident.  He was in Munson Hospital in Traverse City for three months after which he went to AuSable Valley Nursing Home.  Although he was at the Nursing Home, his wife, Twila took him home every day he was able to go. She bought a van with a lift so she could take him back and forth in his wheelchair. Boyd and Twila had the Kauffman Motel for 25 years. After selling it they build a house one-fourth Mile north and lived there where Boyd enjoyed his trout pond.  Boyd liked to hunt and fish.  After he was hurt, his son, Doyle and good friend, Ken Troyer build a Hunting blind and he could drive his wheelchair in to hunt. Ken and brother, Floyd took him hunting every year.  Boyd liked to make things.  He made a cedar chest for the Relief Sale every year. He made a chest for all his children and grandchildren.  He made wooden chains, bowels, little boxes for cards or trinkets,  Picture frames, etc.

He is survived by three children, Doyle (Lori),Kauffman, Robin(John)Winton, and Janelle(Mike)Sauer. Plus seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Brothers include Floyd Kauffman (twin brother), Oland Kauffman (Josephine), Orland Kauffman(Donna).  He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Alta Kauffman

Cremation has taken place.  A graveside service will be held at a later time.

Arrangements were made by Lashley Funeral Home.
